British children's UK holidays
6/7/2009Budget hotel group, Travelodge has released findings of a new report into young British holidaymakers. The company commissioned a survey of 2,500 children between five to sixteen years old to investigate their holiday plans for summer 2009.
The traditional British seaside holiday tops the list, with 48% of kids saying they will be staying by the sea. 17% reported they were having a rural break in the UK. 12% said they were going on a themepark-inspired holiday and 12% reported they where taking a UK city break.
The children were also asked the whereabouts of some of the UK's top holiday destinations. Findings revealed a fifth of young Brits think Cornwall is in Scotland and 46% think that the Lake District is in Wales or the Midlands.
The survey report has compiled a formula for the average British child's ideal summer holiday, which is 3 days at the seaside + 2 days in the countryside + 1 day at a themepark + 1 day doing a city tour. The report also looked at what children like to do on holiday. 56% of youngsters go on a search for the perfect souvenir. Only 2% of children like to dine out and try new foods.
Guy Parsons Travelodge Managing Director said "It is encouraging to see the report identified 88% of young Brits think it's important to grow up with memories of holidays in the UK. This is great news for the future of British tourism."
