New work rights helpline launched
1/10/2009Graduates going into their first job will have the added benefit of a new Pay and Work Rights helpline. The government launched the scheme to help workers gain access to information on their liberties.
It was unveiled earlier this week by business minister Pat McFadden and can be used by both employers and staff seeking advice.
The government says the helpline is particularly aimed at 'vulnerable' workers and those who may not know their rights. The service is confidential and provides help and advice on government-enforced employment rights.
Commenting on the new service, Work Wise UK chief executive officer Phil Flaxton said any assistance to British employees should be welcomed. According to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the service has been created with the help of businesses, trade unions and the various government enforcement agencies.
